I was introduced to trains at 12 years of age. It was Christmas morning (1962) and I woke up to a train running around the Christmas tree. It was a Lionel US-44 rocket launching engine (painted blue) with an exploding boxcar, ICBM rocket flatcar, helicopter carrier, Red Cross boxcar and caboose. train set. Boy was I excited! Little did I know this was to quickly expand into a 22 by 12 foot table layout.
It turned out that my step-father had more interest in the train than I did and as the first tracks were being laid I was instructed that, "No one is to play with the trains unless I am present." The trains weren't mine but his: but that didn't kill my enthusiasm for trains.
As retirement approached my love for trains resurfaced and I built 2 HO scale layouts. My first was 5' X 10" and the second was 6' X 13' when expanded. (pictures to follow.)
