I built this layout based on an article in Model Railroader magazine. When folded up it resembled a boxcar. It was 13 feet long (Two 6.5 sections) and 3 feet wide. (when the hinged side was down 6 foot wide.) While under construction I discovered that the author had never really built this layout as his track plan wouldn't fit the table. The fact that the article had drawings (not photo) of men loading the layout in a trailer should have given me a clue. The track incline was so steep (3-4 degrees) that only very short trains could be pulled (without a helper engine) up the curved inclines. Hidden within the mountain was a switch allowing a change in train routing. Track was permanently mounted but scenery was built as modules allowing removal for transporting. The turn table was built from a kit but I designed the controller myself
